Selling an Itel Phone in Kenya: Is It Even Worth It?

Here is the number that shapes everything else. An Itel A60 in good condition sells for around 6,000 shillings. A brand new one costs about 8,500.

Your buyer is deciding whether to save 2,500 by taking a used phone with no warranty from a stranger. Plenty will, but the margin is thin enough that a broken charging port or a tired battery tips the decision, and thin margins change what you should do.

When selling is not the right move

Below about 5,500 shillings, the money rarely justifies the effort. You will field messages, agree a meeting, travel to it, and hand over a working phone for less than the cost of a week of airtime and fare.

Three alternatives usually beat selling at that level.

Hand it on to someone who needs a phone. A working handset with a charger is a real gift to a student or a relative, and it is worth more to them than 5,000 shillings is to you.

Keep it as a backup. Kenyan power cuts and lost phones both happen, and a charged spare with a second line in it has saved plenty of people a bad week.

When it is worth selling

Above roughly 9,000, which covers the P and S series, the numbers work. A P65 returning 11,000 is real money, and those phones sell quickly because they hit the price point where most first-phone buyers in Kenya are shopping.

Sell those the same way you would sell anything more expensive. Photograph the phone switched on, name the storage, mention the battery honestly, and meet somewhere public.

Sell early, because the floor arrives fast

Itel phones start cheap, which means they have almost no distance to fall before they hit the point where a new one with a warranty wins. An A05s at 5,000 used against 7,000 new gives your buyer very little reason to choose you.

If you are planning to upgrade, sell now rather than in six months. The phone that returns 6,500 today returns 5,000 next year, and at 5,000 you are into the territory where nobody bothers.
