The things that catch people out on this brand specifically, and the questions worth asking any seller.
Global ROM or China ROM is the thing to check
This is the trap specific to Xiaomi in Kenya. Phones made for the Chinese market run different software with no Google Play Store, no Google services, and Chinese apps preinstalled. Sellers sometimes flash an unofficial global ROM over the top, which can break updates, banking apps and sometimes the phone. Check Settings, About phone, and look at the MIUI or HyperOS version. A genuine global version ends in GLOBAL. If it ends in CN, or the seller cannot show you, be careful.
Redmi and POCO are Xiaomi, and that is normal
Xiaomi sells under three names. Redmi is the budget and mid range line, POCO is aimed at performance for the money, and Xiaomi branded models are the flagships. They are the same company with the same software and service, so a Redmi listing is not a lesser phone, just a different line.
Check Mi Account is removed
Xiaomi has its own account lock on top of Google's. A phone still tied to the seller's Mi Account can lock after a reset. Have them sign out of both while you watch, then reset it and confirm it reaches the home screen.
Watch the update position
Xiaomi supports its cheaper models for a shorter time than Samsung or Apple. On a two or three year old Redmi you may already be at the end of the update road, which matters more for banking apps than for anything else.
How much does a Xiaomi cost in Kenya?
Prices depend on the model and condition. Entry-level Redmi models are the cheapest, while flagship Xiaomi and Poco models cost more. Browse the listings above to see current asking prices in KES from sellers across Kenya.
Are these Xiaomi listings new or second hand?
Both. Sellers on Mzuri list new, ex-UK and used Xiaomi devices, and every listing shows the condition (New, Like New, Good or Fair) so you can pick what fits your budget.
