What to check before buying a Huawei
The things that catch people out on this brand specifically, and the questions worth asking any seller.
Google services are the first thing to establish
This is the question that decides whether a Huawei suits you. Models released after the 2019 US restrictions ship without Google Play Services, so no Play Store, no Gmail app and no Google Maps out of the box, and some banking apps will not install. Older models made before the restrictions have Google services and are unaffected. Ask which it is, and test the apps you actually need before you pay.
AppGallery is the alternative, and it is patchy
Huawei's own store covers many popular apps but not all of them, and Kenyan banking and government apps are hit and miss. If your bank's app matters to you, check it is available before buying rather than after.
The hardware is often excellent for the money
Because of the software situation, used Huaweis sell for well under what comparable hardware costs from another brand. If the camera and build matter more to you than the Play Store, that discount is the opportunity.
Confirm the IMEI
Dial *#06# and text the number to 1555 to confirm the device is genuine and not reported stolen.
How much does a Huawei cost in Kenya?
Prices depend on the model and condition. Older models are the most affordable, while P series flagships and MatePad tablets cost more. Browse the listings above to see current asking prices in KES from sellers across Kenya.
Are these Huawei listings new or second hand?
Both. Sellers on Mzuri list new, ex-UK and used Huawei devices, and every listing shows the condition (New, Like New, Good or Fair) so you can pick what fits your budget.
